Important Points

A healthy daily amount of fiber for Men is around 30 grams per day.
A Healthy daily amount of fiber for Women is around 25 grams per day.


Early on after bariatric surgery, you might not experience bowel movements for around 3 - 5 days, we usually recommend a fiber supplement like benefiber during your full-liquid diet, and after your 1st week of surgery.

Around 3 weeks after your bariatric surgery, Oatmeal can be a great source of fiber to incorporate into your diet.

Below are some great sources of fiber for a bariatric patient at 3 or more weeks post operation:

• Avocado
• Flax seeds
• Half a cup of whole grains
• Popcorn
• Sweet potato
• 3/4 cup of Blueberries
• 3 Cups of raw vegetables
• 1/4 Cup of nuts or seeds

Consuming a healthy amount of water is a great way to maintain bowel movements as you undergo your bariatric journey.
